Douglas County Jail Release Paths
Douglas County Jail holds adults awaiting trial, people serving county sentences of up to one year, and people waiting for transport after an Oregon Department of Corrections sentence. Those groups do not all leave in the same way. A court may order conditional release. A person may post bail, finish a local sentence, receive a citation clearance, have charges dismissed, leave through a medical clearance, or move to another custodian.
The booking detail connects the exit to its reason. An actual release date records the end of the sheriff's custody for that booking. Clearance terms such as TIME SERVED, COURT, COND, CITE, or DISMISSED add context. TRANSPORT means the person left Douglas County Jail for another custodian, not necessarily for the community. A court record or receiving-agency record may be needed to complete the timeline.
Confirm Douglas County Jail Release
The official Jail Viewer advanced query is the main county release-search route. It searches both current and past bookings and allows a release-date range. This is more useful for a released person than the live roster, which answers who the sheriff currently reports in custody. A person may have several bookings, so each result must be tied to the right date and case.
- Enter the person's last and first name. Add booking dates or Release From and Release To dates to narrow common-name results.
- Select released status if the control is displayed. The percent sign can act as a wildcard, though a narrow query is safer.
- Open the matching booking through its View control. Compare the booking number, names, booking date, and court case before relying on it.
- Read the actual Release Date, not just Sch Rel Date. Then check status, clearance reason, charges, and any transport indicator.
- If the record shows transport, search the receiving custodian. If proof must be official, request the booking and release record from DCSO.

For this jail, the booking number remains the best key because it identifies one custody event rather than a person in the abstract.

Request Douglas County Jail Records
Use the current DCSO records request form when the online record is gone, incomplete, or not sufficient. Supply the requester contact information, the involved person's full name and date of birth if known, incident or booking date, case number, booking number, and a narrow description. Under OTHER, ask for the booking and release record, including actual release date and time, clearance type, receiving agency if transferred, and the scheduled-release field. The form warns that an estimate or prepayment may apply and gives a minimum of three days as processing guidance. That is not a guaranteed completion term. Confirm all prices on the live form before payment. Douglas County Jail Measures
Capacity figures describe different things and must remain separate. The sheriff describes 232 design beds. A 2025 operational procurement listed 168 beds then in service, a maximum operational population of 150, and an average daily population near 125. Staffing, classification needs, and usable space can make operational capacity lower than architectural design capacity.

Douglas County Jail Exit Counts
The DCSO 2025 year-end report recorded 4,168 bookings and 171 available beds for that reporting period. It also listed 95 SB 48 releases. The sheriff describes those conditional releases as part of an assessment-based process, so they are not the same as completing a sentence.
Transport counts make the release distinction even clearer. DCSO reported 561 adults transported over 23,148 miles, 33 medical transports, and 50 court-ordered transports to Oregon State Hospital. Each figure has its own meaning. Together, they show why a person who leaves the Douglas County Jail roster cannot automatically be called free in the community.
Douglas County Jail Release Hub
The jail occupies the Guy Cordon Justice Center. Roseburg's historic-resource inventory dates the complex to 1976 and identifies WZGF as its designer. That local history is paired with a current operational role. A county medical-services procurement describes the jail as a southern and coastal exchange hub for movements within and outside Oregon.
The justice-center layout can also cause record-routing mistakes. Douglas County Jail, Douglas Circuit Court, and state-operated Community Corrections use the same street complex but keep separate records. Ask DCSO for the booking and release. Ask the court for judgment and disposition. Ask Community Corrections about supervision information it may lawfully disclose.

Douglas County Transport or Release
The Sheriff's transport instructions provide a specific Douglas County rule. Adults sentenced to ODOC for terms longer than twelve months, with no pending charges, are transported to the intake center at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. Coffee Creek is outside Douglas County and is not a local jail. That movement ends the county booking but begins or continues state custody. After intake, confirm the state record through Oregon Offender Search.
An out-of-Douglas Oregon warrant creates another path. If no local charges remain, the person can be taken to the county that issued the warrant. When local charges exist, those are addressed first. Posting bail or receiving conditional release on the Douglas matters does not ensure a community return if the other warrant remains. The Jail Viewer clearance reason is the pivot between release from this jail and release from all custody.
DCSO also publishes a transport-property rule. A transported adult may bring property in a bag no larger than 10 by 14 inches. Commissary goods, knives, and possible weapons are not transported. Excess property must be picked up, mailed at the person's cost, or discarded, and property left more than 30 days is destroyed. This transport rule should not be generalized to an ordinary gate release.
Douglas County Release Record Limits
Oregon Public Records Law, chiefly ORS 192.311 through 192.478, governs access to nonexempt agency records. ORS 192.324 addresses acknowledgment or completion within five business days, fees, and access. That period is not a universal deadline for production. Clarification, fee estimates, prepayment, redaction, and separation of exempt material can affect timing.
The online viewer is not a promise of permanent retention. Released bookings from prior years remained visible during research, but DCSO publishes no fixed online retention term. Save the booking number and request the source record when long-term or certified proof matters. Medical information, protected personal details, active-investigation material, sealed or set-aside records, juvenile material, and other exempt fields may be withheld or redacted.
A Douglas Circuit Court judgment can establish how charges ended, but it usually does not prove the precise physical gate time. The sheriff's actual release field serves that role. When a set-aside order changes public access or a displayed field appears wrong, send the order and booking or case number to the agency that maintains the disputed record.
